Preventing the spread of mud and other waste on truck tires is a key part of environmental compliance. STO Building Group is expanding the use of trackout mats as a solution.
When construction waste is tracked off of construction sites, it can spread on public roads and release sediment into water systems. Cleaning truck wheels to prevent the spread of debris, mud, and other construction waste is a core part of compliance and a key to protecting local enviromants.
Traditionally, the construction industry has relied on pads of gravel spread over a filter cloth to remove debris and mud from vehicle tires. Gravel systems require an involved process for installation and removal, and they require regular maintenance and stone replacement when gravel is tracked off the site.
Manufactured trackout mats have presented themselves as an alternative to traditional stone pads. These lightweight plastic mats are engineered to deform tires and remove lingering materials. Modern trackout mats facilitate faster installation and removal than gravel counterparts, and they require minimal maintenance during use. They also eliminate the problem of tracking stone onto roadways.
Some members of the STO Building Group family have begun piloting trackout mats on jobsites. These mats have the potential to simplify compliance and ensure local environments are protected.
"We are incorporating trackout mats more and more on our project sites,” Says Keith Haselman, senior vice president of safety for STO Building Group. “Their ease of installation and removal, combined with their reliability, make trackout mats a valuable tool for complying with regulations and looking out for environments where we build."
Trackout mats are a simple innovation that can have a big impact—on compliance, project teams, and our local communities
