In an industry long defined by fragmented workflows and legacy tools, the push toward smarter, more connected construction management has gained real momentum. STO Building Group is leveraging a number of tools to make that connectivity better—including Outbuild, a platform designed to modernize scheduling and planning by bringing every stakeholder into a single, collaborative environment.
A PERSISTENT CHALLENGE
For Outbuild founder Franco Giaquinto, the idea emerged from a consistent and unavoidable reality: regardless of project size or complexity, teams were relying on disconnected systems that limited visibility and hindered coordination.
“Whether small or large, their planning processes were all the same—whiteboards, Excel sheets, MS Project—and they were all having problems with it,” Giaquinto says. “That, to me, was a key indicator: there’s got to be some disruption here.”
BREAKING DOWN FRAGMENTED WORKFLOWS
That disruption began with a focus on scheduling, but quickly expanded into something more foundational. In construction, planning is rarely a unified effort. Teams enter projects at different stages, often working within their own silos, making early alignment difficult to achieve.
Outbuild’s approach addresses this challenge by creating a shared planning environment from the outset—one that connects owners, general contractors, and trade partners in real time. The goal is not only to improve efficiency, but to establish stronger working relationships across the project lifecycle.
“Collaborative scheduling and planning from the start is more powerful than just operational excellence,” Giaquinto says. “It builds proper relationships and healthy dynamics between the owner, the general contractor, and the trades from beginning to end.”
A FIELD-FIRST APPROACH
A critical step in achieving that alignment was focusing on the field. Outbuild prioritized usability for superintendents and trade partners, those closest to the work.
“The toughest part was getting buy-in from the field and trade partners,” Giaquinto says. “Once you get that, you have very powerful and relevant information to bring up to the owner level.”
This field-first approach has helped bridge the long-standing gap between jobsite activity and executive decision-making. With real-time data flowing from the field into a centralized platform—plus AI-enabled analytics and insights—teams are better-positioned to anticipate risks, adjust schedules, and maintain alignment across all project teams.
FROM SCHEDULING TOOL TO OUTCOME-DRIVEN PLATFORM
What began as an effort to improve day-to-day scheduling has grown into a broader solution focused on delivering measurable project outcomes.
Initially, it was about building an operationally better platform,” GIAQUINTO SAYS. “Now it’s about outcomes: helping businesses, improving relationships, finishing projects on time, avoiding claims, and mitigating damages.”
As construction continues to evolve, the ability to connect teams, data, and workflows will remain critical to delivering more predictable outcomes—an area where platforms like Outbuild are helping set a new standard.
